Grade 904L is a premium super austenitic stainless steel engineered for maximum corrosion resistance in aggressive chemical environments. With high alloy content including nickel, chromium, molybdenum, and copper, it outperforms standard 316L in reducing acid environments and provides outstanding resistance to stress corrosion cracking.

Key Features

  • Superior Acid Resistance: Copper alloying provides exceptional resistance to reducing acids including sulfuric, phosphoric, and acetic acids at moderate temperatures and concentrations
  • Stress Corrosion Cracking Resistance: High nickel content provides excellent resistance to chloride stress corrosion cracking, a critical advantage over standard austenitic grades
  • Pitting and Crevice Resistance: High molybdenum content (4-5%) provides a PREN value above 34, indicating excellent resistance to localized corrosion
  • Excellent Weldability: Fully austenitic structure with controlled carbon content allows welding without post-weld heat treatment in most applications
  • Good Formability: Suitable for cold forming processes including bending, drawing, and stamping
  • Non-Magnetic: Remains non-magnetic in all conditions, essential for specific instrumentation applications
